Explore Wild Mongolia

Mongolian dot Travel invites you to discover the natural and cultural wonders of Mongolia, one of the last remaining seldom-explored countries. Largely inaccessible to the Western world until only recently, Mongolia offers a rare glimpse into an ancient nomadic culture that has changed little over the centuries.
The traveller will discover this untouched country by exploring the rare combination of ancient traditions of Buddhism, nomadic horse-based culture and natural beauties such as the high mountains, the grasslands and the desert region.

Mongolia has more to offer than one can only imagine. Geography of Mongolia is rich and varied. It has fours distinctively different regions.
To SOUTH the mighty Gobi Desert measures over 1,610 km from southwest to northeast and 800 km from north to south and stretches over Mongolia and China. It occupies an arc of land 1,295,000 km2 in area, making it fifth largest in the world and Asia’s largest. Much of the Gobi is not sandy but is covered with bare rock.

IN CENTER the Orkhon Valley bears an exceptional testimony of the existence of human beings in Central Asia since ancient times as well as Central Asian and World history. It was demonstrated by the unique properties which were left by successive nomadic empires, in particular by the Mongol Empire established by Genghis Khan and its famous capital city of Karakorum.

TO EAST nothing prepares the visitor for the seemingly empty and horizon less expanse of steppe or grassland that marks land form of Eastern Mongolia. The East Mongolian plains are one of the largest, undisturbed steppe ecosystems in the world and the core habitat of the beautiful Mongolian gazelle. In the east you will also find pockets of small lakes with an abundance of bird life such as ubiquitous Demoiselle Crane and the Steppe Eagle, perfect for the birdwatcher.
As one enters this realm, the apparent emptiness disappears and the visitor is stuck by the tremendous diversity and uniqueness of the steppe landscape, flora and fauna.

THE NORTH is dominated by Siberian Taiga with Khövsgöl nuur is located in the northwest of Mongolia near the border to Russia, at the foot of the eastern Sayan Mountains. It is 1,645 m above sea level, 136 km long and 262 m deep. It is the second-most voluminous freshwater lake in Asia, and holds almost 70% of Mongolia’s fresh water and 0.4% of all the fresh water in the world.

TO WEST  the country is blessed by Altai Mountain Range with its highest point of country Khuiten Peak in Tavan Bogd Massif. Its inhabitants the Kazakhs have procured and trained the massive Golden Eagle to assist both in subsistence hunting and to capture the foxes and wolves that threaten their livestock herds. For more than 2000 years, Eagles are captured from their nest at an early age – always the females, who are more active hunters and larger in size – and intensively trained for as long as a year. After several years with the hunting family, the eagles are then released back into the wild.
